Famous places to visit in Umm al Quwain

Umm al Quwain has a great coastal strip, and you will also find beaches along the coastline. There are many travellers from Dubai who flock to UAQ at the weekend. The biggest reason why tourists from other Emirates throng here is that they mainly wish to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. UAQ has a calm environment where you can spend your days relaxing.

However, if you are not a big fan of the beaches, there are other places in UAQ that you can explore. You can visit the UAQ National Museum or the Al Ali fort, where you can explore and delve into the history of the UAE and its seven Emirates. Read on to learn more about some of the most famous places to visit in Umm al Quwain.

1. UAQ National Museum - Al Ali Fort

In 1768, the Umm Al-Quwain's Al-Ali Fort was built. It was constructed to guard the entrance of the old UAQ town. But now it has been transformed into a heritage place, a museum, to be precise. But it is also a spectacular and scenic location as the fort oversees both the creek and the sea. The facade of the Fort-cum-Museum has been restored, and it has two rounded towers, and the interior of the fort doubles up as a museum. The exhibits on display are mainly from the local archaeological sites, and some exceptional artefacts have been dug out from the nearby Tell Abraq and Al-Dur towns which are here for you to see.

The history of Al-Dur dates back approximately 2,000 years. When the excavation at Al-Dur took place, a lot of things were unearthed. These artefacts included ancient Egyptian and Syrian glassware, large storage jars, tombs, stone houses and the earthenware inside them. The orange and black paint pattern is a typical Al-Dur ornamental habit as well. Some of the Al Ali Fort exhibits include foreign coins and locally minted ones. These coins are called Abi’el. Other than that, there is metalwork, jewellery, textiles and weapons dating back 200 years. All the history buffs enjoy this trip a lot. Overall, this place is a must-visit.

2. Dreamland Aqua Park

Dreamland Aqua Park is a great place to visit if you travel with kids and young adults. The water park has 25-plus rides, including a wading pool for children; the twister rides are also very popular among kids. There are also crazy river rides, a giant wave pool, and a kamikaze ride. It is frequented by all the locals and foreigners during summer. There is also a fake active volcano which has replicas of wild animals. It is loved by all the kids who pay a visit to the park.
