Emirates Health Services (EHS) has launched a campaign to raise awareness about the ongoing influenza flu. Under this campaign, it has announced free-of-charge vaccines for residents falling under the high-risk category. These quadrivalent vaccines are available at all public healthcare centres, primary healthcare clinics, and hospitals registered under the EHS.

The campaign is in line with the country’s policy for fighting seasonal and contagious diseases like influenza. It also works to prepare healthcare facilities for the disease, create community awareness, and enhance the prevention rates for the disease.

Residents belonging to any of the following categories can avail of the quadrivalent flu vaccine in the UAE –

  • UAE citizens
  • People with special needs
  • Patients with chronic diseases
  • Healthcare workers
  • Pregnant women
  • Individuals more than 50 years’ old
  • Children under the age of 5 years

Other people in the country can avail of the vaccine shot for a nominal fee at any healthcare facility registered under EHS. The major aim here is to introduce vaccinations as part of societal health awareness as vaccinations are proven to be effective in preventing the spread of infection and decreasing the risks related to them.

With an increase in the cases of influenza, health authorities have advised the high-risk category residents to take the flu shot on time and practice basic precautions to stay safe.
