The UAE healthcare system is well-engineered to ensure that all residents and citizens get the best medical facilities. However, the superior quality of the healthcare system around the world is directly proportional to the expenses of medical facilities as well. The better services you get from your medical care providers, the higher the price would be, given the use of modern technology and state-of-the-art equipment. This is why, if you are not covered under the protection of a private health insurance plan in the UAE, you will probably need to get a health card. A Health card in the UAE is the ultimate thing you need to get access to discounted top-class healthcare if you do not have a health insurance plan or any other back to fall upon.

What is Health Card?

A Health card is a special kind of card that allows the holder to access low-rate public healthcare facilities. A Health card is applicable in most government hospitals in the UAE. Every emirate requires a separate health card to get medical facilities. This simply means that you may need to get a new health card if you move your place of residence from one emirate to another. This is the ultimate solution to all your medical expenses if you do not have a private health insurance plan to cover the expenses of your healthcare services. In short, health card benefits in the UAE are significant enough for all to try and obtain as soon as possible.

Who can Apply for a Health Card?

All UAE citizens, residents, ex-pats, and diplomats can apply for the UAE health card as long as they have the relevant documents. Medical cards are also available for children in the UAE but the parents have to make a separate application for that. You need to be a resident of the emirate to get the health card that is valid specifically there. Healthcare services and medical cards available in each emirate are supported and handled by different authorities. DHA handles the Dubai health card applications while the MOH handles the application for Sharjah health cards which are applicable to be used in several facilities across six emirates.
