What is Emirates ID?

Emirates ID is the unique identification system of the UAE that stores all your personal information and biometric data. The database of Emirates ID, comprising information of all the UAE residents and nationals, is controlled by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship. Emirates ID simplifies the process of identification (and carrying documents), as it can be used anywhere in the UAE as your form of identity. Some transactions and places, like insurance providers and hospitals, even insist on showing Emirates ID for allowing access to services. In a nutshell, such is its importance that you should ideally have your Emirates ID in possession at all times in the UAE as you may need it anytime, any day.

Steps to Change Phone Number Linked with Emirates ID

The answer to the question ‘how to change mobile number in Emirates ID’ involves a total of three steps – filling out the form, verification, and fee payment. Following is a detailed description of all the steps:

Step 1

  • Open your browser and head to the official IPC website. Open the smart service portal which will take you to a list of different smart services available with IPC.
  • Scroll to the bottom and locate the “Other Service – Personal Information – Update Personal Information” service.
  • Click on the “Start Service” button given below its title.
  • You will land on a service form on the next page, where you can start filling in the requisite information.

  • Start by adding your nationality after which, another column will appear.
  • The new column in the form will ask you to enter the file number, which could be a 3 section number or a 4 section number. For Dubai residents, there will be a 3 section number, while a 4 section number is there for residents from the rest of the emirates.

  • Your file number is written on your resident visa and can be located immediately above the passport number.
  • Next, add your Emirates ID number.
  • Add your name exactly as printed on the Emirates ID. You won’t need to worry about the language, as the system will generate the Arabic translation after you enter your name in English.
  • Continue further and add your passport number, Date of Birth (as mentioned on the passport), last date of entry in the UAE (as stamped on the passport), and your email id.
  • As soon as you enter these details, another small form containing sections to add phone number and address will pop up.
  • Enter these details and check the box showing “registered mobile number”.
  • Once you do that, you will get a one-time password on the entered phone number. Enter it and move forward.

Step 2

  • Once you are done here, the browser will take you to step number 2 – review and verification.
  • Check all the details entered and rectify any mistakes.
  • Step 2 is relatively brief but crucial. Proceed only after going through all the details carefully.

Step 3

  • Making the payment is the final step here. Applying for a change of linked Emirates ID phone number invites a fee of AED 52.10.
  • Once you make the payment, your application will be completed and submitted.

You can check or review your submitted application on the IPC portal after logging in with your Emirates ID. Your phone number will get changed in 3 to 7 days after applying. If the application is rejected, the fee will be refunded. However, you can always reapply by following the same process, although you will need to ensure that all the information provided in the form is correct this time. All these steps encompass all the information you will need regarding how to change registered mobile number in Emirates ID.
