Got a traffic fine in Sharjah? The good news is — you don't have to pay the full amount. Pay it on time and Sharjah gives you a discount. As per the Sharjah Executive Council decision of July 8, 2025, drivers can get a 35% discount on eligible traffic fines if they pay within 60 days of the violation. Pay between 61 days and one year and you still get 25% off. Wait beyond one year, and you pay the full amount — no discount at all. This discount isn't a temporary offer. It runs throughout the year.
On July 8, 2025, the Sharjah Executive Council held a meeting at the Ruler's Office in Sharjah, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council.
At that meeting, the Council approved a new, structured framework for traffic fine discounts in Sharjah. The key changes were —
Permanent discount system: The 35% and 25% discounts are no longer campaign-based. They apply all year round.
40 serious violations excluded: The Traffic and Patrols Department compiled a list of 40 high-risk violations that are not eligible for any discount. These were identified as major contributors to road accidents and fatalities in Sharjah.
Impound fees included: The 35% discount (within 60 days) now also covers vehicle impoundment fees, storage charges and any late penalties — not just the fine itself.
This was reported by Gulf News on July 9, 2025, with details directly confirmed by Colonel Abdulrahman Mohammed Khater, Deputy Director of the Security Media Department at Sharjah Police.
How Much Discount Do You Get on Sharjah Traffic Fines?
Here is the full breakdown —
When You Pay
Discount
What It Covers
Within 60 days of the violation
35%
Fine amount + vehicle impound fees + storage charges + late penalties
Between 61 days and 1 year
25%
Fine amount only. Impound and storage fees are NOT covered.
After 1 year
No discount
A full fine must be paid. No reduction of any kind.
Important: The 60-day countdown starts from the date the fine was issued and not from the day you find out about it. Many drivers lose the 35% window simply because they check too late. Make it a habit to check your fines every few weeks.

Which Sharjah Traffic Fines Are Eligible for a Discount?
Not all fines in Sharjah qualify for the discount. The system divides violations into two groups: eligible and excluded.
Fines That Get the Discount
The following common violations are eligible for the 35% or 25% discount:
Speeding fines — starting from AED 300 (Sharjah cameras activate 20 km/h above the posted limit)
Seatbelt violations — AED 400 with 4 black points
Failure to maintain safe distance — AED 400 with 4 black points
Lane discipline violations — AED 400 to AED 1,000
Parking violations — AED 200 to AED 1,000
Expired vehicle registration fines
Vehicle impound fees and storage charges (only when paid within 60 days)
40 Violations That Do NOT Get Any Discount
After the July 2025 policy update, Sharjah Police published the full list of 40 violations excluded from any discount. These were identified by the Traffic and Patrols Department as major contributors to road accidents in Sharjah.
The full list was confirmed to Gulf News by Colonel Abdulrahman Mohammed Khater, Deputy Director of the Security Media Department at Sharjah Police, on July 13, 2025.
Key categories with no discount —
Excessive speeding: Exceeding the limit by more than 60 km/h or more than 80 km/h
Red light violations: Running a red signal by a car, motorcycle or heavy vehicle
Drunk or impaired driving: Driving under the influence of alcohol, narcotics or similar substances
Accidents: Causing a serious accident, injury or death. Fleeing the scene of even a minor accident
Mobile phone use: Using a handheld phone while driving
Dangerous driving: Sudden swerving, dangerous overtaking, reckless driving, overtaking on the hard shoulder
Heavy vehicle violations: All truck-related offences — illegal loading, overturning, falling loads, entry of prohibited vehicles
Pedestrian offences: Crossing from undesignated areas, failing to obey pedestrian traffic signals
Other: Parking in front of fire hydrants, parking in spaces for people with special needs, illegal window tinting, distracted driving, sudden stopping on the road, rubbernecking at accident scenes, transporting passengers illegally
"These aren't just traffic mistakes — they're behaviours that cost lives." — Colonel Abdulrahman Mohammed Khater, Deputy Director, Security Media Department, Sharjah Police (Gulf News, July 2025)
Special Discount Campaigns: When Sharjah Offers 50% Off
Besides the regular year-round discount, Sharjah Police announces special campaigns on national occasions. These campaigns can offer bigger savings and sometimes waive black points altogether.
1. UAE National Day Campaign (December)
Every year around UAE National Day (December 2), Sharjah usually announces a special fine campaign. A notable example:
On November 29, 2022, Sharjah Police announced a 50% discount on all traffic fines issued before December 1, 2022. This was approved by the Sharjah Executive Council on the occasion of UAE's 51st National Day celebrations. The campaign ran for 51 days, closing on January 20, 2023. During this period, vehicle impoundment orders and traffic black points accumulated up to that date were also cancelled.
In December 2025, a similar National Day campaign was announced, offering a 50% discount on fines issued before December 1, 2024, along with cancellation of black points and impoundment orders.
If you have older fines and accumulated black points, the National Day campaign in December is usually the best opportunity to clear everything at once.
2. Ramadan Campaigns
Sharjah Police has previously announced additional discounts during Ramadan as well. These campaigns, when announced, generally offer percentage reductions on top of the regular discount and may include waivers on black points for non-serious violations.
To stay updated on the next campaign, follow the official Sharjah Police social media channels or check their website at sharjah.police.gov.ae.
3. Cancellation of Very Old Fines (10+ Years)
In October 2025, Sharjah Police announced the implementation of a separate Sharjah Executive Council decision to cancel traffic fines that are more than 10 years old. As of October 21, 2025, this initiative had already cleared over 7,000 violations, benefiting 284 individuals.
To apply for this cancellation, there is a fee of AED 1,000 per request. However, the fee is waived in special cases — if the vehicle owner has passed away, has been outside the country for at least 10 consecutive years or if the vehicle was abandoned and the owner cannot be located. Applications can be made at Sharjah's Traffic and Licensing Service Centres.
Who is Eligible for the Sharjah Traffic Fine Discount?
You are eligible for the discount if:
Your fine is for a non-serious violation — not on the list of 40 excluded violations
You pay within the eligible time window — within 60 days for 35% or within one year for 25%
You do not have an active court case attached to the specific violation
There is no separate application or registration needed. When you pay through any official platform (Sharjah Police app, MOI UAE app or EVG website), the system automatically calculates and applies the correct discount before you complete payment.
How to Pay Your Discounted Sharjah Traffic Fines?
There are several ways to pay. The discount is automatically applied on the official platforms and you don't need to request it separately.
1. MOI UAE App (Recommended)
Download the Ministry of Interior UAE app. Log in with your UAE Pass. Go to Traffic Services > Fines Inquiry. Your discount is shown automatically. Pay using a credit or debit card.
2. Sharjah Police Website or App
Visit sharjah.police.gov.ae or open the Sharjah Police app. Go to Traffic Services > Traffic Fines. Enter your licence or plate number. View fines with discounts applied and pay online.
3. EVG (Emirates Vehicle Gate) Platform
Log in to evg.gov.ae or the EVG app. Select and pay your fines. The applicable discount is shown automatically based on the fine date.
4. Sahl Device
Use a Sahl smart kiosk at authorised locations across Sharjah. Insert your card, enter your details and pay.
5. In-Person at Official Locations
Visit during working hours — Monday to Thursday, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm — at any of the following locations:
Sharjah Municipality Headquarters, Al Manakh
Al Khalidiya City Municipality Centre
Public Parking Department, Industrial Area 5
Tasjeel Village, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Waiting too long to check: The 60-day discount window starts from the violation date, not when you discover the fine. Check your fines every few weeks using the MOI app or Sharjah Police website.
Assuming all fines get a discount: 40 serious violations are excluded. If your fine is for running a red light or using a mobile phone while driving, no discount applies.
Ignoring the fine: Unpaid fines block your vehicle registration renewal and can lead to impoundment. Always pay or if you think the fine is wrong, contest it.
Missing the contest window: If you believe a fine is unfair, you can contest it in court, usually within 30 days of the violation.
Providing wrong information when contesting: If you choose to dispute a fine, make sure all details you provide are accurate and supported by evidence.
Not knowing the rules: Stay updated on Sharjah traffic rules to avoid fines in the first place. The Sharjah Police website has the complete list of violations and fines.
Can I get a discount on Sharjah traffic fines if I have a legal case against me?
No. If a court case is attached to your violation, the fine is not eligible for any discount. You will need to resolve the legal matter before the fine can be settled.
How do I get the 50% discount on Sharjah traffic fines?
The regular year-round discount is up to 35% — not 50%. A 50% discount is only available during special campaigns announced by Sharjah Police, such as during UAE National Day in December. These campaigns are time-limited and announced officially on the Sharjah Police website and social media. You cannot apply for a 50% discount outside these campaigns.
What is the last date to get the Sharjah fine discount?
There is no single fixed last date. The discount depends on when your fine was issued. You have 60 days from the violation date for the 35% discount and up to one year from the violation date for the 25% discount. After one year, no discount applies.
How do I check my Sharjah traffic fines?
You can check your fines online at any time through the Sharjah Police website (sharjah.police.gov.ae), the MOI UAE app (using UAE Pass login), the EVG platform (evg.gov.ae) or at a Sahl kiosk in any mall across Sharjah.
Can I pay Sharjah traffic fines in installments?
In certain cases, Sharjah Police may allow a payment arrangement if you are unable to pay the full amount immediately. Contact Sharjah Police directly at their Traffic and Licensing Service Centres to inquire. Keep in mind that delaying payment risks losing your discount window.
Does the Sharjah fine discount apply to the vehicle impoundment fee?
Yes, but only if you pay within 60 days. The 35% discount covers the fine amount, vehicle impoundment period, storage fees and any late penalties. If you pay after 60 days (the 25% bracket), impound and storage fees are not covered by the discount.
