On July 8, 2025, the Sharjah Executive Council held a meeting at the Ruler's Office in Sharjah, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council.

At that meeting, the Council approved a new, structured framework for traffic fine discounts in Sharjah. The key changes were —

1. Permanent discount system: The 35% and 25% discounts are no longer campaign-based. They apply all year round.
2. 40 serious violations excluded: The Traffic and Patrols Department compiled a list of 40 high-risk violations that are not eligible for any discount. These were identified as major contributors to road accidents and fatalities in Sharjah.
3. Impound fees included: The 35% discount (within 60 days) now also covers vehicle impoundment fees, storage charges and any late penalties — not just the fine itself.

How Much Discount Do You Get on Sharjah Traffic Fines?

Which Sharjah Traffic Fines Are Eligible for a Discount?

Not all fines in Sharjah qualify for the discount. The system divides violations into two groups: eligible and excluded.

40 Violations That Do NOT Get Any Discount

After the July 2025 policy update, Sharjah Police published the full list of 40 violations excluded from any discount. These were identified by the Traffic and Patrols Department as major contributors to road accidents in Sharjah.

5. Mobile phone use: Using a handheld phone while driving
6. Dangerous driving: Sudden swerving, dangerous overtaking, reckless driving, overtaking on the hard shoulder
7. Heavy vehicle violations: All truck-related offences — illegal loading, overturning, falling loads, entry of prohibited vehicles
8. Pedestrian offences: Crossing from undesignated areas, failing to obey pedestrian traffic signals
9. Other: Parking in front of fire hydrants, parking in spaces for people with special needs, illegal window tinting, distracted driving, sudden stopping on the road, rubbernecking at accident scenes, transporting passengers illegally

Special Discount Campaigns: When Sharjah Offers 50% Off

Besides the regular year-round discount, Sharjah Police announces special campaigns on national occasions. These campaigns can offer bigger savings and sometimes waive black points altogether.

1. UAE National Day Campaign (December)

Every year around UAE National Day (December 2), Sharjah usually announces a special fine campaign. A notable example:

On November 29, 2022, Sharjah Police announced a 50% discount on all traffic fines issued before December 1, 2022. This was approved by the Sharjah Executive Council on the occasion of UAE's 51st National Day celebrations. The campaign ran for 51 days, closing on January 20, 2023. During this period, vehicle impoundment orders and traffic black points accumulated up to that date were also cancelled.

In December 2025, a similar National Day campaign was announced, offering a 50% discount on fines issued before December 1, 2024, along with cancellation of black points and impoundment orders.

If you have older fines and accumulated black points, the National Day campaign in December is usually the best opportunity to clear everything at once.

2. Ramadan Campaigns

Sharjah Police has previously announced additional discounts during Ramadan as well. These campaigns, when announced, generally offer percentage reductions on top of the regular discount and may include waivers on black points for non-serious violations.

3. Cancellation of Very Old Fines (10+ Years)

In October 2025, Sharjah Police announced the implementation of a separate Sharjah Executive Council decision to cancel traffic fines that are more than 10 years old. As of October 21, 2025, this initiative had already cleared over 7,000 violations, benefiting 284 individuals.

To apply for this cancellation, there is a fee of AED 1,000 per request. However, the fee is waived in special cases — if the vehicle owner has passed away, has been outside the country for at least 10 consecutive years or if the vehicle was abandoned and the owner cannot be located. Applications can be made at Sharjah's Traffic and Licensing Service Centres.

1. Your fine is for a non-serious violation — not on the list of 40 excluded violations

There is no separate application or registration needed. When you pay through any official platform (Sharjah Police app, MOI UAE app or EVG website), the system automatically calculates and applies the correct discount before you complete payment.

How to Pay Your Discounted Sharjah Traffic Fines?

There are several ways to pay. The discount is automatically applied on the official platforms and you don't need to request it separately.

1. MOI UAE App (Recommended)

Download the Ministry of Interior UAE app. Log in with your UAE Pass. Go to Traffic Services > Fines Inquiry. Your discount is shown automatically. Pay using a credit or debit card.

2. Sharjah Police Website or App

Visit sharjah.police.gov.ae or open the Sharjah Police app. Go to Traffic Services > Traffic Fines. Enter your licence or plate number. View fines with discounts applied and pay online.

3. EVG (Emirates Vehicle Gate) Platform

Log in to evg.gov.ae or the EVG app. Select and pay your fines. The applicable discount is shown automatically based on the fine date.

4. Sahl Device

Use a Sahl smart kiosk at authorised locations across Sharjah. Insert your card, enter your details and pay.
