Do You Have a Legal Right to Dispute an RTA Fine?

Yes. While traffic and parking penalties are governed by federal and local decrees, every motorist in the UAE has a basic legal right to object to a penalty they believe was wrongly issued. Both the Dubai Police (for moving violations) and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA, for parking and transit violations) maintain official digital channels for this purpose.

3. Tourists driving rental vehicles — the fine may still be disputed, but the rental company may also be involved in the process

Only the person who committed the offence has the right to submit the dispute directly. If you want someone else to do it on your behalf, you will need a power of attorney.

Not every fine can be successfully disputed. The best chances of success are when:

1. The vehicle plate was incorrectly captured by the camera

The Parkin app is specifically for parking fines managed by Parkin PJSC in Dubai. For traffic violations, use the RTA website or Dubai Public Prosecution.

Method 3: Dubai Public Prosecution Website (Online)

You can also contest a Dubai Police traffic fine through the Dubai Public Prosecution:

• Step1: Visit: http://www.dxbpp.gov.ae/
• Step2: Select "Request to Object a Traffic Fine" on the homepage.
• Step3: Fill in your personal details — full name (as per passport), nationality, date of birth, Emirates ID or residency details, and email address.
• Step4: Select the type of traffic fine from the dropdown menu.
• Step5: Enter your driving licence number and vehicle details (plate number, code, source, and type).
• Step6: Enter the traffic fine details like file number and date.
• Step7: Fill in your address and contact number.
• Step8: Describe the traffic violation. The description must be written in Arabic. Any submission in English or another language will be rejected. If you need help, hire a professional Arabic translator.
• Step9: Attach all required documents and submit.

Before submitting, confirm that: (1) the fine has not already been contested elsewhere (2) the fine has not yet been paid and (3) all details provided are accurate. If the complaint is accepted, you may be required to appear at the Traffic Court.

How to Dispute an RTA Fine Offline (In Person)?

If you prefer to handle this in person, here are your options —

On the court date, you will need to present your case with all relevant evidence. The court's verdict is final and cannot be challenged further, regardless of the outcome.

For serious violations involving black points, vehicle impoundment or a court summons, it is advisable to seek legal assistance before proceeding.

Yes. If you do not have grounds to dispute the fine but feel the amount is too high, you can submit a Traffic Fine Reduction Request.

How Much Does It Cost to File an RTA Dispute?

There is a fee to open an RTA fine dispute. The exact amount depends on the type and value of the penalty issued.

2. If your dispute is rejected, you will need to pay the original fine along with the dispute processing fee.

What Happens If You Don't Pay or Dispute Your Fine?

1. Unpaid fines are added to your RTA traffic file and can block your vehicle registration renewal.
2. If you accumulate 3 or more violations within 30 days, the RTA may impose towing penalties.
3. Black points on your driving licence can also lead to a licence suspension.
4. Unpaid fines do not disappear on their own. The longer you wait, the more limited your options become.
