All the vehicles registered in Abu Dhabi must be registered with the DARB system. The registration process is simple and can be done via the main DARB website or the DARB mobile app. You can do Abu Dhabi DARB registration for private vehicles and company cars. Here are the processes to register for the Abu Dhabi DARB toll gate system:
Private Car Darb Registration Process
You can register your private car for DARB registration in the following way —
- Step1- Log in to the DARB website or mobile app
- Step2- Click on the "Individual Registration" tab
- Step3- Enter your valid email address
- Step4- Check your email address for OTP and enter it in the designated window
- Step5- Enter your traffic code number from the back of your driving licence and select the source file location
- Step6- Verify using your mobile number using the OTP sent to your number
- Step7- Once you have verified the details, you will gain access to the registration form.
- Step8- Fill in the form with all the information, including Emirates ID, and date of birth, and set up a password for the account.
Once you have completed the registration process, you can access the DARB dashboard to keep track of the registered and unregistered vehicles with your current balance.
Company Car Darb Registration Process
You can also carry out the Abu Dhabi DARB registration process for your company cars. The process is the same as that for individual vehicles. All you need to do is select the Establishment tab and follow the same process. However, the details you must fill in the registration form can differ. The details include —

Abu Dhabi Toll Gate System Fees
The standard Darb toll fee is AED 4 per trip, and it's only charged during peak hours. No matter how many times you pass through toll gates in one day, the maximum charge is AED 16. If you own more than one vehicle under the same account, monthly toll fees are capped to help reduce costs:
- AED 200 for the first vehicle
- AED 150 for the second
- AED 100 for each additional vehicle

With the DARB toll system in Abu Dhabi, there's no need to pay with cash at toll gates. The toll fee is automatically taken from your DARB wallet, which is linked to your account.You can easily top up the wallet online through the DARB website or app using a credit or debit card. Also, since DARB is linked to the Federal Traffic System, newly registered vehicles are added automatically, so you don’t need to create a new account.
DARB Abu Dhabi Toll Timings
The DARB toll gate timings vary on weekdays and weekends. Here are the peak hours timings on weekdays (Monday to Saturday):
- Mornings – 07:00 am to 09:00 am
- Evenings – 05:00 pm to 07:00 pm

Abu Dhabi DARB Fines
If you try to pass through the Darb toll gate with an inactive Darb account, you would need to pay hefty fines. This Abu Dhabi Darb registration is mandatory for vehicles. There are 4 types of toll gate system violations.
- Unregistered Vehicles – There is a grace period of 10 days from the first time you pass through the Darb toll gate without a registered vehicle. If you fail to register within this period, the following fines will apply:
- First Offence – AED 100 (irrespective of the number of crossings on that day)
- Second Offence – AED 200 per day (irrespective of the number of crossings)
- Third Offence (and subsequent offences) – AED 400 per day (irrespective of the number of crossings)
- Insufficient Balance – If a vehicle with a licence plate from outside Abu Dhabi doesn't have enough balance in its DARB account to pay the toll, a fine of AED 50 will be charged. However, this fine is only applied if the balance isn't topped up within 5 days of passing through the toll gate. Even Abu Dhabi residents would need to pay the same fine if they have an insufficient balance in their DARB account.
- Tampering with Licence Plate – A fine of AED 10,000 will be imposed if you tamper with your vehicl's licence plate to avoid paying tolls.
- Damaging the Toll Equipment – If you damage any electronic payment machine or toll gate, you will need to pay a hefty fine of AED 10,000.

Important Updates in Abu Dhabi!
Abu Dhabi Darb Toll Gate Timings and Tariff Change — From September 1, 2025,
The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) has announced changes in Darb toll timings. As per the revised schedule, the evening peak hours are now from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Note that the morning hours remain unchanged from 7:00 am to 9:00 am, Monday to Saturday. Exemptions will also continue — no toll will be charged on Sundays and official public holidays.
Another major change comes on the tariff front. ITC has cancelled the current daily and monthly toll limits for private vehicles.
Earlier, the maximum toll charge per vehicle was —
- AED 16 per day
- AED 200/month for the first vehicle
- AED 150/month for the second vehicle
- AED 100/month for the third (and subsequent) vehicles
However, these limits will no longer apply. These new tariff regulations will come into effect from Monday, September 1, 2025.
