As per the Naukrigulf Hiring Index, hiring for jobs paying up to AED 10,000 per month declined by 26% during April and May 2026. The report analysed more than 220,000 job postings from over 7,000 employers across the UAE, Oman, and Qatar, making it one of the region’s largest datasets on hiring trends.

The report attributes the slowdown primarily to regional geopolitical tensions, which prompted many employers to delay hiring. At the same time, it found that technology and AI-related roles remained resilient, with demand for professionals in artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity and data increasing by around 20% despite the broader hiring slowdown.

AI is Changing the Hiring Priorities

The numbers don't suggest that AI is taking away jobs overnight. Instead, they point to a changing aspect of employment.

As businesses continue to invest in automation and digital transformation, they are becoming more selective in their hiring. Employers are increasingly prioritising candidates with AI literacy, digital capabilities and adaptable skill sets. This means professionals must not only keep learning but also prepare for career transitions that may last longer than expected.

When Income Stops, But Your Expenses Don’t

In this new wave, losing a job isn't just about searching for the next opportunity. It's about managing the recurring financial commitments.

Rent, home loan EMIs, school fees, utility bills, and day-to-day household expenses don’t pause because you're between jobs. Even a short income gap can put pressure on your savings and force difficult financial decisions.

Whether you face this situation or not, it’s time to protect your income. While many people prepare for medical emergencies, few prepare for a temporary loss of income.

Income Protection Insurance Can Help Bridge the Gap

In such uncertain scenarios, insurance can be of help. You can turn to Income Protection Insurance, which offers financial support if you lose your job due to covered reasons. Instead of relying entirely on your savings, the plan helps you manage essential monthly expenses while you focus on finding your next role.

The benefits go beyond financial assistance. It can help you:

  • Continue paying rent or loan EMIs on time
  • Manage household and family expenses
  • Reduce the need to dip into your emergency savings
  • Focus on finding the right job and upskilling yourself instead of rushing into the first available one

In a job market where hiring patterns are changing and skills are evolving, a financial backup can offer valuable peace.
