Sphere Abu Dhabi: UAE to Build $1.7 Billion Immersive Entertainment Venue on Yas Island
Abu Dhabi is set to become one of the world’s most advanced entertainment destinations with the launch of Sphere Abu Dhabi, a futuristic immersive venue planned for Yas Island. The construction is expected to be wrapped up by 2029. The project, announced by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and Sphere Entertainment Co., marks the first Sphere venue outside the United States.
As per reports, the estimated construction cost of the venue is US$1.7 billion. The location is situated between Yas Mall and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi on Yas Island.
What is Sphere Abu Dhabi?
Sphere Abu Dhabi is designed as a next-generation engaging entertainment arena inspired by the famous Sphere venue in Las Vegas, which opened in 2023 and quickly became globally popular for its giant LED exterior and ultra-immersive experiences.
As per the plan, the Abu Dhabi venue can accommodate around 20,000 visitors. Additionally, other exclusive technological features will include advanced technologies such as ultra-clear wraparound LED screens, sound systems, and interactive storytelling experiences.
Officials say the project will have:
- Immersive Sphere Experiences
- International concert areas
- Sports and entertainment events
- Conferences and global brand showcases
- Cultural productions highlighting Emirati heritage and storytelling
Why Was Yas Island Chosen?
As per Abu Dhabi officials, Yas Island was selected due to its strong tourism infrastructure, global appeal, and existing entertainment ecosystem. The island already has major attractions, including Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, Yas Marina Circuit, and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi.
Officials added that the venue could become a major visual attraction during globally televised events, such as the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

How Could the Sphere Abu Dhabi Change Entertainment in the UAE?
As per industry experts, Sphere Abu Dhabi could redefine live entertainment in the Middle East by introducing large-scale exclusive experiences never before seen in the region. The development also signals the strategy to expand its tourism and entertainment portfolio, following recent announcements around cultural projects and theme park expansions on Yas Island.
The Bigger Picture for UAE Tourism
Sphere Abu Dhabi is expected to become one of the UAE’s most recognisable entertainment landmarks once completed. Authorities believe that the venue could attract millions of tourists annually, positioning Abu Dhabi as a leading destination for entertainment and large-scale global events.
