What is the SBI Life Smart Privilege Plan?
The SBI Life Smart Privilege Plan is a Unit Linked Insurance Plan (ULIP) that provides life cover along with investment opportunities in a variety of funds. It is a non-participating plan, meaning policyholders do not receive bonuses or dividends.
While the investment risk is borne by the policyholder, the plan offers flexibility in premium payments, unlimited free switches between funds, loyalty additions, and much more. Essentially, this plan is designed to protect you financially and give you a way to grow your money.
Important Disclaimer:
- Unit Linked Insurance Products (ULIPs) do not offer liquidity during the first five years of the contract.
- Policyholders cannot surrender or withdraw their invested funds (either fully or partially) until the completion of the 5th policy year.
This ensures that the policy remains focused on long-term wealth creation and life cover protection.

How Does the SBI Life Smart Privilege Plan Work?
Here is how the plan works in simple steps:

- Select Fund Allocation: Among various available funds, invest in one or multiple funds that suit you best
- Fund Investment: After the deduction of applicable taxes and charges, the remaining amount gets invested into the selected fund
✍️The price of the units of the selected fund is the main determinant of unit allocation, and keep in mind that the invested amount grows based on market performance
Benefits of the SBI Life Smart Privilege Plan
The SBI Life insurance plan benefits are mentioned below:
Death Benefit
In case of death during the policy term, the nominee will receive the higher of the following amounts:
- Fund value at the time of death
- Sum Assured minus applicable partial withdrawals (if any)
- 105% of total premiums paid, reducing applicable partial withdrawals
- The nominee can choose lump sum or installment payouts over 2-5 years
Maturity Benefit
On survival till maturity, the fund value is paid as a lump sum to the policyholder.
Loyalty Additions
SBI Life Smart Privilege rewards long-term policyholders with Loyalty Additions, which enhance the fund value over time. Here’s how it works:
-
Eligibility & Timing
-
Loyalty Additions begin from the end of the 6th policy year.
-
They are credited at regular intervals (6th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th year) till the end of the policy term, provided the policy is in force.
-
-
Calculation Method
-
Loyalty Additions are calculated as a percentage of the average fund value.
-
The fund value is averaged over the 1st day of the last 12 policy months before the allocation date.
-
-
Unitisation Process
-
Once calculated, the loyalty additions are unitised and added to your fund value.
-
The unit price on the day of allocation is used for crediting.
-
-
Revival Clause
-
If a policy has lapsed but is later revived (with all due premiums paid), the loyalty additions will be credited on the date of revival.
-
-
Exclusions
-
Reduced Paid-Up Policies do not qualify for loyalty additions.
-
-
Percentage of loyalty additions is provided in the table:
| Last day of the Policy Year | Loyalty Addition % |
|---|---|
| 6 | 1.0% |
| 10 | 2.5% |
| 15 | 3.5% |
| 20 | 5.0% |
| 25 | 6.0% |
| 30 | 7.0% |
👉 These loyalty additions are credited to the fund value and act as a reward for staying invested long-term.
