The festival is rooted in the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his son to Allah as an act of obedience or faith. This powerful story of faith and sacrifice is remembered through special prayers, charitable giving, and the ritual of Qurbani (sacrifice of livestock), with meat being distributed among family and friends. In the UAE, the day begins with morning prayers at mosques, followed by festive meals, gift exchanges, and outings with family and loved ones. Notably, the festival also marks the end of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Makkah. ## When Will Eid Al Adha 2026 Be Celebrated in the UAE? Since the festival follows the moon's cycle, the exact date varies each year. The moon-sighting event will be held on May 17, 2026. However, astronomical prediction says that this year, Eid Al Adha is expected to begin on May 27 (Wednesday). The first day of Dhu Al Hijjah is expected on May 18 (Monday). ## Eid Al Adha 2026 Holidays for Private Schools and Public Sector Employees For the UAE public sector employees, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources has declared a 5-day paid holiday, collectively on the occasion of Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha. The break starts on May 25 (Monday) and continues till May 29 (Friday). In Dubai, private school students and staff will enjoy a 9-day long break, including weekends before and after the Eid holidays (May 25- May 29, 2026). The Private Education Authority of Sharjah announced Eid Al Adha holidays from May 25 to May 28, 2026. Regular classes and administrative work will resume on June 1, 2026. ## Best Places to Travel During Eid Al Adha Holidays in the UAE With the Eid Al Adha break offering up to 5 days off, many residents look forward to short trips and getaways.
